Day by day

Open any day for the detail. Everything here can move: add a night, swap a hotel, change the order.

  1. Days 1 to 3 · Hoan Kiem, HanoiOld Hanoi

Land in Hanoi and settle into a hotel near Hoan Kiem Lake. A guide takes you through the Old Quarter on foot for street food, to the Temple of Literature and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and one evening goes to a water puppet show.

Overnight: A colonial-era hotel in the French Quarter

  2. Day 4 · Lan Ha BayA night in Lan Ha Bay

Drive to the coast and board a small boat in Lan Ha Bay, quieter than neighbouring Ha Long Bay. Kayak between limestone islands, swim off the deck and sleep at anchor.

Overnight: A small overnight boat with private cabins

  3. Days 5 to 8 · Hoi AnHoi An

Drive back to Hanoi and fly to Da Nang. Hoi An is best early and late: walk the old town before the tailors open, cycle out to the vegetable village at Tra Que, and eat cao lau at the market. The beach at An Bang is a short cycle away.

Overnight: A riverside hotel just outside the old town

  4. Days 9 to 11 · Angkor WatThe temples of Angkor

Fly to Siem Reap. Your guide times each visit to avoid the crowds: Ta Prohm's roots and ruins early, the carved faces of the Bayon at midday, and Angkor Wat itself at dawn on the last morning.

Overnight: A garden hotel in Siem Reap

  5. Day 12 · Siem ReapFly home

A transfer to Siem Reap airport for the flight home to London Heathrow with one connection.
