This is the closest thing to a classic mobile safari camp that I can book with a big operator behind it. Five tents on a semi-permanent site near the Chobe River, lanterns instead of electricity, a hot bucket shower filled when you ask, and dinner cooked over the fire. It is simple on purpose, and all the better for it.
Chobe in the dry months means elephants, and lots of them, coming down to the river. Game drives run morning and afternoon, and on stays of two nights or more a half-day photographic trip on the Pangolin Voyager is included, with a camera fixed to every seat and professional photographers on board to help.
It suits confident travellers who like the idea of camping but not of roughing it: each tent has a proper bed, an en-suite flushing loo and a butler. It will not suit anyone who needs air conditioning, a charging socket by the bed, a pool or a mobile signal. Transfers from Kasane airport are included, so it also slots neatly before or after Victoria Falls.
